Pineapple Building

Of all the ‘follies’ dotted around Scotland's countryside, perhaps the strangest is the Pineapple. Built in 1761 for the fourth Earl of Dunmore as a garden retreat, it’s now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland. (You can even arrange to stay there, through The Landmark Trust).

It makes a great centrepiece to a stroll round the surrounding gardens, through the Dunmore Park estate and down to the Firth of Forth. As well as lovely countryside, you can also visit Airth Castle, now a hotel.
