North Calder Heritage Trail

Uncover the remains of Scotland’s industrial history – paper mills, iron works, disused coal railways.

This 10-mile heritage trail follows the Monkland Canal (once Scotland’s most profitable canal) and North Calder Water to Hillend Reservoir. It starts at Summerlee Heritage Park.

The route is particularly enjoyable in the wildflower season (summer), and can be walked in around four hours. You can use public transport to return to the start, or park along the way to create circular walks.
