River Avon Heritage Trail

A great way to experience the changing character of a river.

This waterside trail links Linlithgow with Avonbridge, and can be walked in either direction. The river flows through long calm straits, over weirs and waterfalls and through narrow gorges. It’s home to a rich variety of plants, birds and animals that change from season to season.

The route includes boardwalks and stiles, with interpretation panels along the way. There are facilities in the towns at both ends of the nine-mile walk.

Location:
Avonbridge – Linlithgow, West Lothian.

Directions:
In Linlithgow, the trail starts near the train station. From its south exit, turn left up Back Road onto the Union Canal towpath 250m on your right. From Avonbridge, the trail is signposted off Bridgend Road.

Opening Hours:
Open year-round, depending on the weather.
